Highlights:
Spectacular diving site.  The canyon starts at 24 meters and drops to
32 meters.  White tipped reef sharks, big-eye trevally and rainbow
runners are commonly found.  Shallow waters are great for rock
groupers and schools of yellow-ribbon sweetlips.  Two kilometers from
Amuk Bay is Gili Mimpang which is a cluster of three exposed rocks.
White-tip reef sharks patrol the scattered rocks and boulders and
pelagic fish such as tuna and sunfish are commonly seen. Pink squat
lobsters can be found in the barrel sponges. The dive bottoms out at
30 meters, and you'll come across bumphead parrotfish, longfin
bannerfish as well as schooling batfish.  Acropora table corals and
leather corals dominate the shallows with blue-spotted sting rays and
black-blotched sting rays occupying the surrounding sand patches.
Comments:
The coral walls are steep and the current is cold.  The canyon is also
called “the toilet” by the locals as currents can be very strong with a
down-pull into the canyon when there is a surface swell.

Highlights:
This is the favourite diving spot of the owners of JSM.  There is an
unbelievable diversity of marine life.  The USS Liberty shipwreck is an
incredible dive, some of the ship's guns remain intact.  When the ship
sank it was broken into two pieces, so even beginners can explore
the inside of the ship and still have a clear view of the surface.
Diverse coral now covers the ship. The beautiful wall dive about a
kilometer from the shipwreck in front of the Mimpi hotel is a gentle
dive with a wide variety of coral and fish.   The night diving is
exceptional, especially when there is a full moon.
Comments:
This site also makes for great snorkeling and skin diving.  On a clear
day snorkelers can view the ship from the surface.  One word of
caution, rocks can be sharp and the volcanic rocks on the beach can
make entering and exiting the water quite a challenge.  This is a great
site for beginner and professional photographers alike.   Also, be sure
to take some bananas as the fish will eat right out of your hands -
just be careful of your fingers as the colourful parrot fish can have
quite big teeth!
